When I was a child, my grandparents lived on a farm nine and one half miles north of Semans.   I have many fond memories of sunny days on that farm.

My grandparents had an old horse, called Jimmy. We used to ride him bareback, sometimes one of us and other times as many as three kids on Jimmy.

My Mother tells stories of her riding on Jimmy when she was a child and how he would let you ride him but when he didn’t want any riders he would come to a full gallop, stop abruptly, put his head down and the rider would come flying off unto the ground.

When we rode Jimmy it was many years later, but he still had the same temperament and although he couldn’t move as fast as he once had, when he got tired of us he would head for the barn door, which was low and the rider(s) would be knocked to the ground.

This barn reminds me of that old barn. Funny I cannot picture that barn in my minds eye but I sure remember that low door.

Jimmy would also run under the cloth line and knock us off.   One time I was on Jimmy with my brothers and he decided he had enough of us and ran for the cloth line, two of us ducked and one brother got knocked to the ground.

No wonder we have so many aches and pains.
